Job Description

Hairstory is seeking a Social Media Manager to own our organic social strategy, daily channel management, and community growth. You will turn our brand point of view, product education, and hairdresser expertise into content that earns attention, builds trust, and supports discovery and sales.

This role combines strategic ownership with hands-on publishing, copywriting, community

engagement, and performance analysis.

What you will do

• Own social strategy and channel performance
• Develop and execute the organic social strategy for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, and evaluate emerging channels based on audience and business opportunity.
• Set channel goals with the VP of Integrated Marketing and own monthly and weekly calendars aligned with launches, campaigns, retail moments including Ulta, and ongoing product education.
• Define content pillars, recurring series, and channel-specific formats that make Hairstory’s voice recognizable and give audiences a reason to follow and engage.
• Lead social content planning and execution
• Ideate and create content to fulfill a large pipeline across Brand, Ulta, Creators and Hairdressers
• Generate platform-native concepts, hooks, scripts, and captions; translate trends and cultural conversations into timely ideas that fit the brand.
• Write clear creative briefs and partner with creative teams, hairdressers, creators, and external resources to deliver social assets suited to each platform.
• Own scheduling, publishing, approvals, quality checks, profile updates, and channel hygiene; manage deadlines and keep stakeholders aligned.
• Adapt approved assets for social through lightweight edits, text overlays, and platform tools, working with creative partners on more complex production.
• Build community and amplify authentic voices
• Manage comments, direct messages, and proactive engagement in a warm, informed brand voice; partner with customer support to resolve questions and escalate sensitive issues.
• Use social listening to identify audience needs, product feedback, trends, and potential reputation issues, and share actionable insights with internal teams.
• Partner with influencer and affiliate leads to integrate creator, customer, and hairdresser content into organic social; confirm permissions and usage rights before publishing.
• Develop community participation and UGC initiatives that encourage conversation, advocacy, and product discovery.
• Measure results and improve the strategy
• Own regular reporting on reach, engagement rate, shares, saves, audience growth, video retention, traffic, and attributable conversions where available.
• Test hooks, formats, messaging, and posting approaches; turn findings into clear recommendations and calendar changes.
• Collaborate with integrated marketing, PR, retail, paid media, and creative teams to connect social insights and content to broader business priorities.

About you

You combine strong creative judgment with an analytical approach. You understand what makes

people stop, watch, share, and participate, and can turn that understanding into a focused plan.

You take ownership, prioritize effectively, and collaborate generously. You care about product

education, sustainability, and serving both customers and the professional hairdresser community.

Your experience

• 4–6 years of relevant social media experience, including independent ownership of brand channels, strategy, calendars, and reporting.
• A track record of growing engaged audiences and improving organic social performance, with examples that explain your role, results, and what you learned.
• Deep working knowledge of Instagram and TikTok, including platform behavior, short-form storytelling, community practices, and native analytics.
• Excellent copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to make product education clear, engaging, and consistent with a distinctive brand voice.
• Experience briefing and collaborating with creative teams and creators, and adapting content for different channels and audiences.
• Strong community judgment, customer empathy, and experience handling sensitive conversations and escalating issues appropriately.
• Comfort with social publishing and analytics tools, project management systems, and lightweight video editing tools such as CapCut or native platform editors.
• Strong organization and ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and use data to guide decisions.
• Beauty, haircare, or lifestyle experience is a plus, as is experience with creator content, affiliate programs, TikTok Shop, or retail marketing. Please share examples of channels you have managed, relevant content, and measurable results.
